Creative Leadership

Everything's changing.

In over two decades in the creative field, I've seen a lot of change.
The medium.
The creative teams.
The clients.
And unfortunately, the work.
I wrote a whole paper on this change. I based part of my thesis work on it, and specifically what's needed next. You can read it here. Creative leadership has also changed...and it needs to change again. What creative teams need now is a different kind of leadership. What companies need now is a different kind of creativity. As the world sprints towards efficiency, templates, and best practices, those who go against the sea are the ones who will make a difference.

What shouldn't be changing.

A creative leader's focus on the people, their careers, and their portfolio should be the most important thing. What you didn't read here is sales, margins, or quotas. No matter how great or bad the economy is, the creative vision should remain the same, otherwise you're in a constant state of mediocrity. Creatives should focus on being creative and making the best work they've ever done. Anything less is just repeating the past.
